Does the dress fit properly? Is it bulky or heavy? Remember, you’re going to be wearing this for the better part of a day. You may think you can handle the itchy lace, but the reality is: after an hour or two, it might drive you crazy...the last thing you want. Will you be able to sit? Select a dress that looks natural in the destination you choose. Try on more than one dress, the style of your dreams may not look as you intended. By looking at several styles, you’ll be able to find the gown that flatters you the most. Keep in mind that you will be wearing your dress in very high temperatures. Light layers will breath better and keep you cooler. Sleeveless is very popular as it will be cooler and show off your tan! Hint: If you do select a strapless dress, buy yourself a strapless bathing suit to avoid tan lines. When you select your dress think about your head piece. If you have a veil in mind make sure that you remember that it may be windy on your wedding day. Select a headpiece that looks nice without the veil.
The longer the train the more difficult it will be for transporting the dress. We recommend that you take your dress as a carry on. That you double bag it in plastic to avoid any travel stains. Not all airlines will be able to accomodate your dress in a hanging closet, it may have to go in the overhead. Think about booking a first class seat, at least on the way to the wedding. Don’t even think about shipping it. You don’t want to risk it getting stuck in customs.
The camera really does add ten pounds. If you look in the mirror and you’re sure your dream dress makes you look a little heavy, think of how you’ll look in pictures. Don’t let your dress overwhelm you. If it looks to poufy, it probably is. If you want to do a "bride in the ocean or pool" photo shoot pick a dress that is light and flowing.
It takes time to order a dress. Once it’s in, it will need to be fitted and altered. Make sure your dress isn’t left until the last minute. You may end up paying hefty fees for rush jobs. Shop for a wedding dress at least six months in advance – preferably longer.
Dress according to the season. The last thing you want to do is wear a heavy, long sleeved dress in the summer. Most destination wedding are in warm and sometimes breezy destinations (it also makes those destinations romantic!) Make sure your dress works with you! Be practical. Don’t suffer a heat stroke because you wore a winter dress in ninety degree heat.
Now that you have a plan start shopping for that free wedding dress!
